Rikolto’s history in Indonesia dates back to the 1950s. For over 40 years, we have been supporting farmer cooperatives. In 2021, our projects impacted the lives of 15,310 producers.

Our work in the cocoa, coffee and rice sectors dates back to the late 2000s. As of 2017, Indonesia was one of the first countries where we started up our Good Food for Cities programme. Currently, we are running our Sustainable cocoa & coffee programme, Sustainable rice programme, and our Good Food for Cities programme in the cities of Depok, Bandung, Solo and Denpasar.

Urban and Peri Urban Agriculture as Sustainable Food Source for Healthy School Meals

Ensuring school children have access to nutritious, affordable meals goes hand-in-hand with supporting the livelihoods of local food producers. CULTIVAFE - Cultivating Sustainable Coffee for Better Farmer Livelihoods, Gender Equity and Youth Participation

The CULTIVAFE Project, funded by JDE Peet’s, empowers smallholder coffee farmers in West Lampung and Tanggamus to improve productivity, sustainability, and market access. Through youth engagement, climate-smart practices, and collaboration with private companies such as PT. Asia Makmur, CV. Antara Saudara, and Olam Food Ingredient, the project strengthens resilient coffee communities in Indonesia.

Sustainable and inclusive rice-based food systems in Indonesia

In Indonesia, more than 93% of families consume rice daily, with the average person eating around 114 kg of rice per year. A five-year project (2022-2026) funded by the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (DGD) and implemented by Rikolto aims to provide Indonesian consumers with sustainable, healthy and affordable rice while increasing the resilience of local value chains, with a specific focus on those in the most vulnerable positions: smallholder farmers, women and youth.
