On January 16, 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendagri) and Rikolto signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the 2025-2027 period.
The MoU outlines key program directives supported by the government under Rikolto’s initiatives in Indonesia. These include the Food Smart Cities program, which serves as the foundation for urban food system transformation, the Coffee and Cocoa Commodity Program aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods and enhancing resilience to climate change, and the Rice Commodity Program focused on improving rice quality, increasing farmers’ income, and reducing environmental impact. Rikolto’s programs in Indonesia are expected to contribute to national priority initiatives in strengthening food systems.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the Directorate General of Regional Development at Kemendagri, which serves as Rikolto’s technical partner, as well as provincial and district government representatives from Rikolto’s program areas.
“There are many regional development programs that can be aligned and synergized with initiatives brought by international development partners like Rikolto. We encourage regional governments to maximize the benefits of this partnership between Kemendagri and Rikolto in their respective areas, according to the relevant sectors,”
During the same event, Rikolto’s Indonesia Program Director, Noer Wulan Sari (Nonie) Kaban, reaffirmed Rikolto’s commitment to collaboration.
“Rikolto has received partnership support from Kemendagri for over 20 years, since 2000. For all the programs we have implemented and will continue to develop, we cannot work alone. We operate through partnerships with farmer groups, cooperatives, the private sector, commodity associations, NGOs, local foundations, and universities. Support and guidance from both national and regional governments (through relevant agencies) are crucial elements in Rikolto’s program planning. We hope that with the support of all stakeholders, Rikolto can fulfill its commitments under this MoU,”
