At the end of January 2025, PPLH Bali, in collaboration with Rikolto, universities (Udayana University, Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar, and Warmadewa University), and the Denpasar City Government, organized Fishtival at Ruang Taksu, Dharma Negara Alaya, Denpasar.

With the theme “Encouraging Children to Eat More Fish for a Smarter Generation,” this event was the culmination of a series of educational activities aimed at introducing children to local food, particularly locally sourced fish, measuring the nutritional value of food, and learning how to grow vegetables for their own consumption. To make the event even more engaging, PPLH Bali also organized a drawing competition and a healthy food video contest, which attracted participation from elementary and middle school students across Denpasar.

“We at the Fisheries and Food Security Agency highly appreciate the Eat More Fish Festival in Denpasar, particularly in increasing fish consumption among children from early childhood to elementary and middle school levels,”

Drh. Ida Bagus Mayun Suryawangsa, Head of the Denpasar Fisheries and Food Security Agency

During the same event, PPLH Bali also launched the Healthy School Canteen Module, designed to help school canteens in Denpasar provide healthier snack options for children. The launch of this module is a crucial step, considering the rising cases of childhood diabetes mellitus, which are linked to excessive sugar consumption and low vegetable intake.

The Healthy School Canteen program is part of Rikolto’s Smart Food Cities program, funded by the Belgian government. Developed and implemented in close collaboration with PPLH Bali, the module has been tested at SD Negeri 3 Peguyangan and SD Negeri 7 Dauh Puri, with hopes of being adopted by schools across Denpasar.

“I hope the Healthy School Canteen program continues to receive support from the government, stakeholders, and especially from the children themselves. This program is designed specifically for them—because eating healthy helps children grow strong and smart,”

Catur Yuda Hariani, Director of PPLH Bali.
